10/2008 - ButterFat Writing Services partners with ex-labor commissioner, Kurt Barthel, to produce labor-law compliant manuals for small businesses. ButterFat Writing Services and Kurt Barthel will produce labor law-compliant documentation, including: Employee Manuals, Operations Manuals, and Company Policy Manuals for local small businesses in Humboldt County. Liz and Kurt agree that having soundly written documentation in place is less expensive than being sued by employees because of a lack of understanding of company policies or being investigated for non-compliance with labor laws. Recent high-profile, local cases involving employers being sued for past infractions illustrates the need for any business with employees to have a complete documentation suite on file. Documentation packet prices will vary according to the size of the business, the number of employees, and the level of complexity of the project. Every project is customized and personalized by Kurt and Liz for each small business’s needs. Kurt Barthel brings 30-plus years of labor law expertise and consulting to the arrangement. Liz Casey, of ButterFat Writing, brings 20-plus years of documentation expertise, including high-level Technical Writing, copywriting, and desktop publishing, to the arrangement.
